City of Dreams is now The City of Guns. A city plagued by shootings and anarchy while an attack by a terrorist changes it all, causing the death of an aggressive hitman's wife. Unfolding in 10 hours is a violent, revenge saga between two dangerous men as catastrophe awaits the city.
In the summer of 2023, my friend Apurva Singh and I decided to take on the challenge of creating an action short film. With his expertise in screenwriting and my skills in filming and editing, we aimed to break the mold of typical teenage filmmaking. Choosing action meant dealing with choreography intricacies, believability, and impactful sound design – challenges we were ready to tackle right after our 11th-grade exams.
We spent a month brainstorming and scripting, simultaneously scouting for actors and props. Late-night calls and daytime script readings fueled our anticipation as our vision took shape. The shooting phase, where I took on the roles of director, cinematographer, and editor, became an intense two-week process, followed by two more days for reshoots a month later.
Post-production took three meticulous months, with me delving into the editing process. Simultaneously, Apurva navigated film festival submissions and sought platforms for our film's release. Endless edits and drafts shaped the final product, released strategically on Humaramovie, a YouTube channel with over 1 million subscribers. The film garnered 20,000 views across social media and earned two international awards from film festivals.
The heartening audience response marked the beginning of a profound learning journey. It affirmed the power of storytelling through film, fueling our passion for cinematic exploration. This project showcased our ability to overcome challenges, collaborate seamlessly, and bring a vision to life. As we navigate the dynamic landscape of filmmaking, this action short film remains a testament to our dedication, creativity, and the endless possibilities in our cinematic journey.
